09/07/2025 - I want to provide all community members a reminder of Elmwood's arrival and dismissal procedures. There has been an uptick in traffic due to the removal of over a dozen bus stops which require students to be driven to school by car, or require the student to walk to school. This reminder is help to make certain our routines and procedures provide our school community the safest arrival and dismissal experience we can provide.
Doors will open for students at 9:05 a.m.
Therefore, there will be no adult supervision for students until 9:05 a.m. We ask if your child walks to school, they do not arrive until after 9:05 a.m. The late bell rings at 9:20 a.m. Children must use the crosswalk on Dale Avenue where they will be crossed by Mr. Scott, Elmwood's crossing guard.
If you are choosing to drive your child to school, you must use the lower care loop to drop your child off. You should also use the lower car loop to pick your child up in the afternoon.
Dismissal procedures begin promptly at 4:05 p.m.
Stopping your car in the middle of Dale Avenue to let your child off and/or pick up is unsafe and creates an unnecessary traffic jam on Dale Avenue. Additionally, performing
illegal U-Turns on Dale Avenue are also unsafe and unnecessary. Parking is only permitted in signed areas on Dale Avenue, and avoid parking and unloading in front of driveways on Dale Avenue and in restricted areas marked by signage. DO NOT DOUBLE PARK.
No vehicles are permitted in Elmwood's upper parking lot to drop off students before school or to pick students up after school. This is to help ensure that children can use the parking lot crosswalk without any unnecessary vehicles entering or exiting the lot.
Parents are NOT permitted to walk their child to class and must remain outside of the building in order to help ensure our safety procedures remain in place, and to reduce hallway traffic. Please email or call your child's teacher if you wish to establish a conference considering teachers are not available to conference during instructional time.
Thank you in advance for all of your support and cooperation. Ensuring our procedures and routines are efficient and as safe as possible is our primary goal. Our Elmwood families deserve the very best.
08/24/2025 - We want to provide some updates and reminders as we welcome students in grades 1 - 5 back to Elmwood on Monday, August 25th, at 9:05 a.m. (Kindergarten, PreK 3, and PreK 4 students will start on Wednesday, August 27th).

All students will enter through the main lobby doors. You should have your child at their assigned bus stop 15 minutes ahead of the estimated time until the driver becomes more familiar with the route and the pick-up time becomes more predictable. You are encouraged to begin building relationships with your child's driver starting day 1.

08/22/2025 - The Office of Transportation has made adjustments in alignment with COMAR Transportation alignment and removed transportation services from students who are within the "walking zone." If parents are contesting the decision, you should send them to the
Bus Stop Request Form.
