Our School

Elmwood Elementary is located in the Northeast Area of Baltimore County, Maryland.
With students numbering around 500, our school reflects a culturally diverse population.

Last year, Elmwood celebrated its 50th anniversary. We were happy to welcome back alumni, faculty, and friends from the past.

The proposed Kindergarten through sixth grade school was designed to alleviate overcrowding in the Fullerton area.

Groundbreaking on the 57 acres occurred in December 1956.

Building Elmwood

Elmwood Elementary (faculty and students) began to function in 1957 as a separate unit at Fullerton Elementary School as the building had not been completed. Students attended each afternoon as the students of Fullerton went to school in the morning.

Dedication of the building occurred on February 23, 1958.

The first principal of Elmwood Elementary was Mr. Bosley Royston.

A graduate of the Maryland State Teachers' College (1937), he previously was principal of Hebbville and Westchester Elementaries, and Woodlawn High School.

In the sixties, Elmwood held huge Fun Fairs every year to raise money for the school.

In September of 1963, the television program Youth Speaks broadcasted live from our auditorium with members of the Elmwood community.

Into the 1980's...

In the new millenium, Elmwood suffered from a fire, and was relocated to Rosedale for a portion of the school year.
